Earthwing Skateboards was started by Brian Petrie. Brian’s known me practically since I got my first skateboard about 18 years ago, and has known skateboarding for much longer than that. Earthwing as a concept was born in Brian’s head 13 years ago when he built his first board prototype in his apartment in Brooklyn. That soon turned into designing and building tons of decks at home, pressing them in his spare bedroom, filling his dishwasher with screens to print his own graphics, and starting to build the company from the ground up in full DIY style. His soon-to-be-wife Angela (plus their five cats) put up with half her apartment being a skateboard factory because she believed in Brian’s passion for what he was doing and thought he might just be able to pull it off. He and his family (now also including twin boys ) have built Earthwing into one of the sickest longboard and custom street board companies out of NYC or anywhere on the planet right now. Finally after years of talking with him about doing something together we’ve teamed up and I dropped this ripped Earthwing graphic for the brand new, and fucking massive, Hightailer Deck. A 44 x 10 inch street deck you can still ollie with. Not another longboard. They’ll be available soon through the Earthwing website or just drop Brian a line. He still answers all his own emails.
“We were not thinking about making another ‘longboard’, but scaling up a street-deck to GIANT proportion to see what happened.”
