La Tabacalera, Final
An old tobacco factory in Madrid seemed like the perfect place to do a proper (and properly sized) tribute to the classic Optimo Sign, with smoke and all. This piece is very personal as it talks a lot about where I come from and the influences in my work but at the same time it gives an optimistic word to those who might not know the context behind the piece. This combination of something personal and that still holds up out of context is important for a lot of artwork. When there’s no little plaque or vinyl letters stuck to a white wall next to a piece explaining everything then most people can only react on their gut instinct. Too much art relies on texts, explanations, and back stories while the piece itself gives the viewer little or nothing on its own. That being said I’m going to shut up now.
